Plot To Take Over House Of Reps By Opposition Parties Will Be Resisted – APC

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated that it will oppose the opposition parties’ effort to seize control of the House of Representatives in the 10th National Assembly.

Earlier, news outlets claimed that the opposition’s newly elected members gathered on Tuesday to form a group dubbed Larger Majority’ to work together to influence the election of the Green Chamber’s future leaders.

The opposition members-elect also convened to fine-tune strategy for leveraging their numbers as bargaining power in negotiations with the All Progressives Congress’s speakership aspirants (APC).

The old and new members-elect of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Social Democratic Party (SDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Young Progressives Party were present during the meeting in Abuja (YPP).

Bala Ibrahim, APC Director of Media and Publicity, told Newsmen that the ruling party will not stand by and allow opposition parties to control the national legislature.

Ibrahim stated that the party leadership is doing all possible to facilitate a smooth transition between the 9th and 10th Assemblyes, but that certain people are spreading false information in order to inflame the situation.

He said, “We are not going to witness that. All hands are on deck to ensure there is a smooth transition between the 9th and 10th Assembly. As the leading party, nothing will be out of control.

“Some people are peddling false information and fake news all over the place to overheat the arrangement. But I assure you that everything is (being) done in such a way that nothing untoward is likely going to happen.”
