Reno Omokri, a former presidential adviser, has lambasted supporters of Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi for their attack on Nobel laureate Professor Wole Soyinka.
Omokri spoke in light of Soyinka’s previous remarks on the outcome of the 2023 presidential election, notably those involving Obi and his running mate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed.
In a recent interview, Soyinka revealed that he reached out to Obi three times before the election and told him that if he lost, it would be the responsibility of the Obidients.

In addition, in an interview with Arise TV on Wednesday, Soyinka criticized Baba-Ahmed for his outburst in a recent television interview, claiming that his entire words throughout the interview were unsuitable, adding that statements contained fascistic language.
He characterized Baba-words Ahmed’s as a “do-or-die attitude and provocation” that runs against to democratic principles, emphasizing that he has no authority to threaten the judiciary.
The Nobel laureate stated that the LP vice-presidential candidate’s attempt to “dictate to the supreme arbitrator of the nation” was wrong.
The submissions drew criticism for Soyinka, particularly from Labour Party members known as Obidients.

On Thursday, Omokri expressed his thoughts on the situation via his Twitter account, saying he was not shocked that Obi supporters insulted Soyinka because of his statements, despite his previous support for the LP flagbearer.
The former presidential assistant expressed sympathy for activists, journalists, and celebrities who support Obi and Obidients, predicting that they, too, will be ridiculed like Soyinka.
Omokri wrote: “If Obidients can insult Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka, despite his earlier support for Peter Obi, just because of a small criticism he gave, who are you that they won’t take to the cleaners, after using you? Unless you are willing to keep praising Obi till infinity!”

He added: “I sympathise with activists, journalists, and entertainers acting as sidekicks to Peter Obi and Obidients. A time will come when being a yes-man for that movement stops giving you traffic. When that day comes, they will treat you as they have treated Prof. Soyinka!”
