Charly Boy Slams Wole Soyinka Over Attack On ‘Obidients’

Charles Oputa, commonly known as Charly Boy, a veteran Nigerian singer, has attacked Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka for his recent statements about ‘Obidients,’ supporters of Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi.

According to news reports, Soyinka called ‘Obidients’ “fascists” for their attacks on his personality on Friday.

In an interview with Channels Television, Soyinka described the ‘Obedient’ movement as a threat to the courts.

The professor went on to say that he had warned Obi ahead of the presidential election that if he lost, his followers would do so on his behalf.

LP supporters made harsh remarks against Soyinka in their responses to the current announcement.

But, Soyinka answered with a statement titled “Fascism on Course.”

In an Instagram post on Saturday, Charly Boy stated that he no longer respects Soyinka and that the Nobel Laureate will never be like Chinua Achebe.

According to him, Soyinka has reduced himself to a child for criminal politicians, which he considers a great shame.

He said: “The kind respect I had for dis man, was almost the kind of respect I had for my stainless father, The Socrates of the Supreme Court.

“It has finally dawned on me that Soyinka can never be the man Chinua Achebe was.

“Look at a man many Nigerians put on such high pedestal reducing himself to a boyiboyi for criminal politicians. What a f..king big shame”
