Nigerians Blast Sam Omatseye Over Fake Photo Of Tinubu With Buhari In Mecca

After tweeting an old photo of President Muhammadu Buhari and President-elect Bola Tinubu together and saying it was shot on Wednesday, journalist Sam Omatseye received harsh criticism.

The image was shared on Twitter by Omatseye with the description “Asiwaju Tinubu. On April 12, 2023, the President-elect and President Buhari were in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

Netizens criticized the seasoned journalist for lying and spreading false information after learning the picture was really shot in 2019 during Buhari and Tinubu’s break from the Ramadan fast at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

In his contentious essay “Obi-tuary,” Omatseye, a columnist for The Nation, said that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, was using the Biafran narrative to advance his bid for the presidency as a candidate from the south.
