New information has come to light regarding Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), being expelled from his Igyoruv Ward.

Ayu was suspended on March 26 by his Igyorov Ward in the Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State, according to news reports.

After a Benue High Court judgment prohibiting Ayu from posing as the PDP National Chairman, Ayu was compelled to resign down and was succeeded in that position by the party’s Deputy National Chairman (North), Ambassador Umar Damagum.

Speaking to The Guardian, a member of the party’s Ayu’s Igyoruv ward Executive Council described how the Philip Msughve-led exco allegedly fell for the scheme to remove him from the high office.

He said that following the gubernatorial and state Assembly elections, the executive committee was requested to report to the party’s state secretariat in Makurdi.

They were assured, according to sources, that the report would allow the party to submit their petition to the election petition tribunal.

They were taken to a hotel in the Makurdi city where journalists were waiting after providing the information.

Then, Bemgba Iortyom, the PDP publicity secretary for Benue State, allegedly gave them a statement that had already been written and was ready to be read to journalists.

According to The Guardian, after the ward secretary had read the statement, they were required to sign it before having their cell phones seized and turned off.

The source disclosed that some exco members’ names were misspelled and even signed before the paper was made available to those who could sign it.

According to the Ward Executive, they were instructed to return to their homes with N1 million each delivered to their bank accounts along with one motorcycle for each member of the exco after being kept away from the public for a number of days.

When The Guardian contacted the Benue State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Iortyom, he said: “You should bring the person who made these allegations. That is a definite allegation against my person. If the person doesn’t come forth, I will not speak on the matter.”
