Kogi APC Primary: Gov Bello Picks Usman-Ododo, Onoja, Others Withdraw

Ahmed Usman-Ododo, the state’s auditor general, has been named as Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello’s top choice to succeed him.

The capital’s Lokoja will host the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election on Friday.

According to NAN, six candidates withdrew from the race on Thursday. Edward Onoja, the deputy governor, was one of them.

David Adebanji-Jimoh, a former finance commissioner, Ashiru Idris, Okala Yakubu, Abdulkareem Asuku, the chief of staff, and Accountant-General Momoh Jibrin are among them.

At a meeting led by Governor Bello and held at the party secretariat, the candidates announced their withdrawal.

A “gentlemanly agreement” was struck, according to Governor Mohammed Bello-Matawale, chairman of the electoral commission.

Usman-Ododo was announced as the Kogi helmsman’s chosen candidate for the November 11 gubernatorial election, according to the Zamfara helmsman.

“All other aspirants who have not withdrawn from the race are free to participate in Friday’s direct primary election,” Matawalle added.
