Supplementary Poll: Thugs Snatch Ballot Box Amidst Heavy Security Presence In Imo

The Imo State supplementary election was interfered with on Saturday by some political thugs who were allegedly armed security personnel.

The vote box was stolen by thugs at Umuarusi Amandugba Hall in the Imo state’s Isu local government area, according to newsmen.

Despite the substantial security presence, five criminals allegedly broke into the polling places about 9:19 am, according to Vanguard.

The neighbors are concerned for their safety, according to a voter named Chibuike who spoke with the aforementioned media. He emphasized that security armored trucks were spotted patrolling the area before to the theft of the ballot box.

He said: “We are afraid. You saw how they snatched the ballot box with security people and you it was planned. We are afraid and we are not safe. How can an election be conducted with an armoured vehicle? This is wrong.”

The Ebonyi State Police Command has in the meantime detained four people in connection with the murder of Peter Nweke, a PDP chief.

The state police leadership claims that on March 18, 2023, Nweke was tortured to death by thugs who were thought to be supporters of a rival party.

While serving as his party’s agent in the region, Nweke was killed at the Umuezeokaoha hamlet in the state’s Ezza North Local Government Area.

The Ebonyi State Police command said that the suspects had admitted to the crime in a statement issued through its spokesperson, SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya.
