UPDATE: Okeme Emerges Kogi Labour Party Governorship Candidate

A lawyer named Mr. Adejo Okeme was announced as the Labour Party’s (LP) nominee for governor of Kogi State on November 11 on Sunday.

At the primary held on Saturday in Lokoja, the state capital, Okeme garnered 127 votes to defeat his nearest challenger, AVM Isaac Alfa, who received 69 votes.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), a 7-member committee headed by Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi, the party’s deputy national chairman, oversaw the primary.

A total of 196 delegates from the state’s 21 local government areas were credentialed and cast ballots for the candidates of their choosing, according to Olorunfemi, who made the primary results announcement on Sunday morning.

The committee chairman said, “Okeme, having scored the majority of the lawful votes cast at the indirect primary election conducted on April 15 in Kogi, is hereby declared the winner of the Labour Party primary election 2023.”

Okeme thanked the electorate in his acceptance speech for choosing him to represent the party’s interests in the upcoming Kogi governorship race on November 11.

He also expressed his gratitude to the party’s leaders, members, and primary election committee for the orderly primary, which helped him win.
