As the new Warri Kingdom Ologbotsere (Prime Minister) was installed on Sunday by the Olu of Warri Kingdom, HRM Ogiame Atuwatse III, there was controversy.

Chief Oma Eyewuoma, a former Aboludero of the Warri Kingdom, is the new Ologbotsere. At the monarch’s palace at Warri, the contentious event took place.

“As far as Warri kingdom is concerned, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy. True reconciliation will not be forced on Ogiame.

“There is no son or daughter of Itsekiri that will hold this throne to ransom and so the terms of reconciliation will be determined by Ogiame. The reason we are doing this publicly is a divine one.

“I have struggled, resisted trying to come down and be vulnerable before my people. It is not an easy thing to do,” he said.

Chief Ayirimi Emami, who claimed to be the Ologbotsere, left the Olu of Warri shortly after that.

Ayiri said that the customary beads that the preceding kings, HRM Ogiame Atuwatse II and HRM Ogiame Ikenwoli and the Uda, gave him were still in his possession.

The Ologbotsere descendants and supporters who accompanied Chief Ayiri to his home were addressed as he presented the traditional beads and the sword.

Later, Alex Eyengho, the spokesperson for the Ologbotsere descendants worldwide, talked to reporters and clarified that the Ologbotsere title meant “till death.”

According to him, Emami would achieve “peace of the graveyard” if he accepted his father’s title, which is a “lesser title in the name of peace”.

Pastor Ayodele Joseph Oritsejafor, a former leader of the Christian Association of Nigeria, left the gathering.

Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, a former governor of Delta State, attended and stayed until the ceremony was done.

Other notable Itsekiri sons who were present, such as palace chiefs, left dissatisfied.
