According to President Muhammadu Buhari, his administration has delivered on its pledge to hold free, fair, transparent, and credible general elections in 2023.

The President reportedly said this in his message of friendship to Muslims on the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr, which celebrates the conclusion of the 30-day Ramadan fasting period.

President Buhari stated that the peaceful conclusion of the 2023 general elections will be remembered as one of the finest accomplishments of his government in a statement released on Thursday night by his spokesman, Garba Shehu.

The President emphasized that the elections were so transparent that several members of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), were defeated, underlining that he never meddled in the process to give anyone an unfair advantage.

President Buhari stated that “the results of the elections were in line with my pledge to leave a legacy of free and fair elections” in his well-wishes to Muslims on the occasion of the Eid-el-Fitr celebration to commemorate the conclusion of the 30-day Ramadan fasting season.

He said: “I’m proud that I have created a level playing field for all contestants regardless of party affiliation in order to produce a fair outcome for all.

“Free and fair elections are the only principles that give credibility to our democracy because the subversion of the will of the people undermines democracy itself.

“The elections were so transparent that even members of my own party were routed and unseated. At no point did I interfere with the process in order to give an unfair advantage to anyone.”

President Buhari thanked Muslims on completing the difficult spiritual duty of the Ramadan fast.

President Buhari urged that “We should not forget the important lessons of Ramadan which include improving our bond with the underprivileged and poor members of society” as he prayed to Allah to bless the Muslims for their sacrifices made during the fasting season.

“Abstention from food and drinks during the fasting period had made it possible for us to appreciate the situation of those who go without eating every day.”
