Vincent Kompany Shortlisted Among Chelsea’s Potential Managers

A shortlist of candidates for the position of permanent coach at Chelsea includes former Manchester City defender and current Burnley coach Vincent Kompany.

One of the three managers Chelsea has reportedly nominated for the vacant Stamford Bridge managerial position is Vincent Kompany, who recently achieved a promotion to the Premier League for Burnley.

Remember that since Chelsea fired Graham Potter a few weeks ago, they have been looking for a new head coach. Frank Lampard, a former player and coach for the team, was named the interim coach for the remainder of the season by the club’s controlling owner Todd Boehly while the hunt for a permanent replacement goes on.

Things have become worse since Lampard took over, as the English coach has lost four of his past four matches in command of the team, including a 4-0 aggregate loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League. As a result, there is no likelihood the team will hire him as a permanent coach.

Chelsea has narrowed down its managerial options since he has been ruled out to include Kompany, former Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino, and an unnamed manager.

The West London club and Pochettino have previously spoken about the position. Julian Naglesmann, the former manager of Bayern Munich, has also visited with them, although according to the BBC, the German coach is not likely to be selected the team’s coach.

Thus, one of the front-runners for the position is Vincent Kompany, who began his management career with Belgian side Anderlecht during the 2019–2022 season before moving to Burnley during the 2022–2023 season.

The sporting directors for Chelsea, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, who are in charge of hiring, are rumored to be taken aback by the attractive and offensive playing style of his squad.

However, there is no assurance that the 37-year-old Belgian strategist will be chosen as Chelsea’s coach over other accomplished coaches who are being considered by the organization.
