Why We Set Shanties At Alaba Market On Fire – Lagos Police

Contrary to widespread rumors, the Lagos State Police Command has stated that police officers assigned to Ojo Division were responsible for setting fire to the shanties near the markets.

It was discovered that police officers from the Lagos State Police’s Ojo Division set shanties on fire after conducting a search of the area, making arrests, and finding weapons and ammunition.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the state police command’s public relations officer, refuted the story of the fire outbreak and said, “This is a fake narrative! Police from the Ojo Division raided shanties near the market on the basis of reliable information, apprehended some suspects, and found some firearms. After that, the shantytowns were set on fire.

Meanwhile, the Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, Mrs Margaret Adeseye who confirmed the incident, said efforts were underway to put out the inferno.

Mrs Adeseye who also revealed that fire crew from Ojo, Sari-Iganmu and Ajegunle were reportedly being turned back by angry mobs from performing their statutory duty said they are presently on standby.

She said the agency is collaborating with Security agents to address the incident.
