Senate Presidency: Godswill Akpabio Visits Ooni Of Ife (Photos)

Senator Godswill Akpabio, a former minister of Niger Delta affairs, paid Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, a courtesy call at his palace at Ile Ife.

In the midst of the competition for the Senate Presidency for the 10th National Assembly, the senator from Akwa Ibom North-West paid a visit to the first-class monarch on Saturday.

When the 10th parliament is sworn in in June, Akpabio is reportedly one of the leading senators vying to become the new Senate President.

The former governor of Akwa Ibom was accompanied during the visit by Senator Barau Jibrin of Kano North, who is expected to become Deputy Senate President, and Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State.

Akapbio’s appointment as the future Senate President was announced by Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje a few days prior to the visit.

The governor of Kano stated that the choice to nominate Akpabio was already made, but he made no mention of whether the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership made the choice.

He had said: “The Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria will come from the south-south and it is no other person than the former governor of Akwa Ibom.

“The uncommon governor, the uncommon minister who is going to be the uncommon president of the senate. So we have resolved that.
