The Labour Party (LP) and Peter Obi, its presidential candidate, have submitted an application requesting that the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal’s proceedings be broadcast on television.

Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential contender, had submitted a similar application.

Through his attorney Chris Uche, the former vice president pleaded with the court to allow the televising of proceedings in his lawsuit contesting the declaration of All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Tinubu as the election’s victor.

Livy Uzoukwu, the attorney for Obi, informed the tribunal that the prehearing on the petition should be postponed to a later time since there are still documents that need to be submitted and served.

The petitioner, respondents Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and Tinubu all agreed to postpone the matter to May 17, according to Mr. Uzoukwu.

The agreement was confirmed by Kashim Shettima, counsel to INEC, the APC, and the president-elect and vice president-elect.

In order to give the parties time to decide which documents are in dispute and which are not, the tribunal postponed the prehearing session to May 17.
