Seun Kuti, a Nigerian singer, offered his assistance with the inquiry on Monday, hours after becoming viral for attacking a Nigerian Police Force officer in Lagos.

Recall that Fela Anikulapo Kuti, the son of the legendary Afrobeat musician, recently got into a fight with a police officer.

Seun was seen arguing angrily with the cop who was standing in the middle of a busy road in a viral video that Newsmen saw.

Seun hit the police during the argument. Reactions to the development have been conflicted both online and offline.

After the video went viral, Usman Alkali Baba, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), promptly ordered Seun’s arrest.

“The IGP has equally ordered a speedy and full investigation into the remote and immediate cause(s) of the assault and prosecution of the suspect accordingly.”

“IGP Usman Alkali Baba assures Nigerians that acts of contempt/disdain for symbols of authority will not be tolerated while offenders of such hideous crimes will be surely brought to book,” the spokesman for the Nigeria Police Force, Muyiwa Adejobi had said in a statement.

Seun went to see Idowu Owohunwa, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, on Monday in keeping with his promise to assist the police in their investigation of the incident.

As of the time this report was filed, the singer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, were still with the police commissioner.

“Seun Kuti and a senior lawyer, Olumide Fusika have gone to see the Commissioner of Police in Lagos, they’re there now,” a source reportedly told the news platform.
