Former members of the National Assembly from the South-South forum have thanked the All Progressives Congress (APC) for giving their region the position of Senate President.

They exhorted the APC to uphold this choice and see to it that it is carried out.

John H. Agoda, a forum participant, praised the APC’s decision during a news conference in Abuja and urged them to stick with the current zoning scheme.

Agoda cited a recent statement by the APC leadership that the original division of posts among people and geographic areas would be reconsidered after more extensive consultations.

He stated, “As former members of the National Assembly, we believe and demand that all persons elected as principal officers of the 10th National Assembly should be above board and people of integrity and without blemish.”

Referencing Senate regulations, the group emphasized the significance of proposing and supporting a senator-elect for the position of Senate President.

They emphasized the need to take into account the cultural, ethnoreligious, and regional diversity of the nation when filling these positions.

Agoda went on to say that the South-South Zone had been relieved as a result of the APC’s clarification since it had made it easier for APC senators from the region to run for the Senate Presidency.
