Lamidi Apapa, the leader of the party’s division, gave the legal team representing Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi and the party a 48-hour deadline to inform him of the petitions filed with the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.

News organizations learned from Daily Trust that Obi and the Labour Party’s chief attorney, Levi Uzoukwu (SAN), declared on Sunday that the legal team has no dealings with Apapa.

He said that Apapa failed to brief them, and as a result, they are not in any way liable to him.

The team responded after Apapa ordered on Friday that all attorneys handling the petition at the election tribunal brief him on any new developments within 48 hours.

He was quoted as saying “I want to invite all the lawyers that are in charge, representing the Labour Party at the election tribunal, to give me updates in the next 48 hours because I am the one in charge and the one in the driver’s seat.”

According to Newsmen, the directive was issued after Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal High Court ruled on Friday that the court had jurisdiction to hear the party’s case and issue the order prohibiting the embattled party’s national chairman, Julius Abure, and three other individuals from misrepresenting themselves as Labour Party national officers.

According to Justice Muazu, the court would not tolerate a mistake committed by a political party.

However, Abure and the legal team had planned to appeal the decision on its objection on Friday.

Obi’s legal team chief disregarded Apapa’s instruction over the briefing on Sunday, declaring, “He never briefed us; we are not answerable to him and we will never be answerable to him.”
