According to the Nigerian military, anybody and organizations attempting to obstruct Bola Tinubu’s inauguration on May 29 will face harsh punishment.

According to news sources, this was said on Monday in Abuja, the nation’s capital, by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the director of defense information.

Gusau issued a warning against any risks to the transition program and, consequently, to the country’s democracy, to dissident groups and politicians who came in last in the 2023 elections.

The military stood by the warning it had earlier made to groups advocating for an Interim National Government (ING), the Defense spokesman said in a conversation with The Punch on Monday.

Gusau, however, issued a warning to troublemakers not to test the military’s resolve before the inauguration and promised that the military will retaliate against any potential threats to national security.

The defense official stated that the march past parade for the inauguration was already being practiced by the soldiers as part of ongoing preparations.

He said: “The preparation for the event was ongoing. We are already doing our rehearsals for the march past parade.’

A few hours prior, Usman Alkali Baba, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), had stated that certain political elites and other disloyal people were plotting to thwart a civilian-to-civilian transfer of power on May 29, 2023.
