Why I Will Challenge Buhari’s $800m Loan In Court – Ndume

Senator Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South Senatorial District, has stated that he intends to challenge the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari’s request for the $800 million loan.

The National Social Safety Network Program would be funded by the loan, which President Buhari had requested the Senate approve.

Following the termination of fuel subsidies, the loan, which was secured from the World Bank, aims to help society’s most disadvantaged members.

However, Ndume asserted that the loan is “unconstitutional and unfair” in an interview with Trust TV’s Daily Politics.

Using an analogy, he stated, “Let me give you an example: We are two people in the studio, and you say you are going to borrow one million and share it between the two of us.

“How would you decide who gets the money? Moreover, if the two individuals are the ones responsible for repayment, that would be acceptable, but in this case, all Nigerians will bear the burden.”

Ndume went on to stress the injustice of giving 4,000 Nigerians money at random, emphasizing that this would be against Nigeria’s constitution, which forbids discrimination.

Ndume expressed his concerns, accusing the administration of possibly manipulating President Buhari and implying that their priorities are not Nigerians’ wellbeing but rather personal wealth.

He concluded, “What they are targeting is what they can get out of it, not what Nigerians can benefit from. You can quote me on that. If any of them challenge me on TV, I will be ready to explain myself. They are misleading the President.”

Senator Ndume’s steadfast opposition to the loan demonstrates his intention to challenge it in court since, in his view, it violates constitutional norms and is not in the Nigerian people’s best interests.
