NDLEA Detains 34 Drug Suspects In FCT

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), FCT Command, reports that during a sweep operation against illegal drug dens in the territory, 34 individuals were apprehended.

This information was provided in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja by the agency’s FCT Commander, Kabir Tsakuwa.

Tsakuwa claimed that the operation was required to fight drug misuse, particularly as Nigeria gets ready to transition to a new administration.

He stated that “Operation Tsaro” was launched by the command on May 8 in order to close down drug dens and capture dealers throughout the FCT.

The commander said the operatives successfully seized variety of illicit substances, including Cannabis Sativa, Methamphetamine, Tramadol, Codeine, Rohypnol, and other psychotropic substances.

He listed drug hotspots raided to include Torabora, Dei-dei, Wuse Zone 4, Wuse Zone 3, Banex, Garki Village, Area 1, Gwarimpa (Village, 3rd Avenue), Abattoir in Karu, Gwagwalada, Kabusa, and Kuchigoro IDP Camp.

“While some of the arrested individuals have been charged and taken to court, others who are users are undergoing counseling sessions,” Tsakuwa added.

The commander said that the raid would continue until the agency effectively eradicate hard drugs from circulation, in order to reduce criminal activities in the FCT.
