Moonshine Residence Nnewi Kicks-off Maiden Beach Football Tournament (Video)

A maiden beach football tournament in Anambra, South-east organised by Moonshine Residence Nnewi, kicked off today Amid fanfare and Jubilation.

The tournament which is build to last up to a month kicked off at Nnewi’s first collection of opulent shortlet apartments, Moonshine Residence, located at No. 1 Madubuko Street, Uru-Umudim, Nnewi, Anambra State.

The social sporting event kicked off on Sunday, May 21, at the beach court within the premises of the first of it’s kind hospitality facility.

The maiden edition which will be played for one month and played between Saturday and Sunday, saw teams participating in the tournament drawn from industrial, banking and hospitality organisations like Gabros, Innoson Group, Chicason Group, Cutix Plc, and Tummy Tummy, OTC, Moniepoint, Keystone Bank, Access Bank, First Bank, Moonshine.

“The tournament is a fusion of beach and regular football”, an ex-Rangers International footballer, Mr Ralph Emeka who doubles as the Project director of Moonshine Residence, told AnaedoTV while revealing rules of the game .

I. The football game contains eight teams from different organisations in Nnewi

II. It is a type of football played at the beach, with enough sand on the pitch.

III. Three persons play per time on each side.

IV. Each of the teams would play three games before moving up to the final.

V. The rule of the game is different, as there is no penalty, no throw-in, no corner-kick etc.

VI. The winning team would go home with a trophy, and N100,000; while others would receive different consolation prizes.

VII. There would be awards for the highest goal scorer, most behaved team, and most valuable player, among other prizes.

The Crown Prince of Nnewi, Prince Obianefo Orizu told AnaedoTV expressed optimism that the social sporting event will serve as a tourist attraction to Nnewi and its environs.

“More organisations team will join the footballing tournament as this will improve sports activities in Nnewi and its neighbouring communities. This tournament will help in enhancing synergy, unity in the corperate community”. he said.

His brother, Hon Chukwudi Orizu, the former Deputy Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, lauded the efforts from Moonshine Residence, while revealing the sporting event will push other Nnewi indigenes abroad to imbibe the spirit of think-home agenda (Aku-Luo-Ulo).

At the event were noteable men from Nnewi like, Crown-Prince Obianefo Orizu, the Crown Prince of Nnewi, Hon. Chukwudi Orizu, the former Deputy Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Dr Emma Nsoedo, the former Anambra State Commissioner for Sports.

However, the opening match saw Innoson Group defeating Chicason Afro-Asia by 7:3; while the second match saw Moniepoint defeating OTC by 14:4 goal aggregate. The second leg of the match will be played on Saturday, May 27.

The Moonshine Residence, which is completely different from hotels seen every day, was founded by Prof. Victor Tochukwu Madubuko, a human resources manager, consultant, and teacher at Yeshiva University in New York, United States, and a native of Uru in Umudim, Nnewi North local government area of Anambra state.
