Buhari’s Last Broadcast: I Apologise For Hardship Caused By Some Of My Decisions

Nigerians have received an apology from President Muhammadu Buhari for the suffering some of his administration’s choices over the past eight years have caused.

The apology was made by the Nigerian president during his final speech to Nigerians on Sunday morning, which Newsmen covered.

Buhari stressed that some of the actions of his administration brought “temporary pain and suffering” to Nigerians but insisted that this was not their aim.

The President said that even though the choices were challenging, the actions were done for the benefit of the nation as a whole.

He said: “In the course of revamping the economy, we made some difficult choices, most of which yielded the desired results.

“Some of the measures led to temporary pain and suffering for which I sincerely apologised to my fellow countrymen, but the measures were taken for the overall good of the country.”

President declared that despite some of his administration’s severe policies, he will leave the nation in a better state than when he assumed office in 2015 to succeed President Goodluck Jonathan.

By taking the first, crucial measures, Buhari said he feels satisfied that he has begun Nigeria’s rebirth. He hopes the new administration will continue the process to see a Nigeria that realizes its potential as a great country.

He added that he continues to pray for them and the country to live in peace while thanking the millions of Nigerians who prayed for him and helped him during his illness during his first time in office.

He said: “I also want to use this opportunity to express my appreciation to a good number of Nigerians who provided their support and encouragement to help me navigate the exciting journey of moving Nigeria forward.

“I cannot and will not forget the millions who prayed for me during my illness in my first term of office. I am constantly praying for you and for Nigeria to thrive in peace.

“As I retire home to Daura, Katsina State, I feel fulfilled that we have started the Nigeria Re-Birth by taking the initial critical steps and I am convinced the in-coming administration will quicken the pace of this walk to see a Nigeria that fulfills its destiny to be a great nation.”
