2023 Census: Tinubu Set To Meet NPC Chairman This Week

There are hints that President Bola Tinubu and National Population Commission (NPC) Chairman Nasir Isa-Kwarra may meet before the week is out.

It was discovered that Isiaka Yahaya, the NPC spokesperson, announced the news on Tuesday.

The 2023 Population and Housing Census, which was initially slated to take place from May 3–7 but was postponed indefinitely, is expected to be the topic of discussion, according to Newsmen, even though the agenda and the exact day of the meeting were not disclosed.

Remember that the 2023 Population and Housing Census, which was originally slated for May 3–7, 2023, has been formally cleared for postponement by previous President Muhammadu Buhari.

The news was revealed in a press release that the previous minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed.

Mohammed disclosed that on Friday, April 28, 2023, in the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Buhari had a meeting with some members of the Federal Executive Council and the Chairman of the National Population Commission, Nasir Isa-Kwarra, and his staff.

The NPC spokeswoman, Isiaka Yahaya, shed more light on the postponed 2023 census, stating that one of the reasons was the necessity to provide the incoming administration input on the scheduled census in order to use the results properly.

He continued by saying that the rumors spreading that the exercise had been postponed due to a lack of funding were untrue.

Yahaya, however, revealed to The Punch that there had been a recent development: “The chairman will meet with the President this week, but I am unable to offer you a specific date. We are preparing a presentation to inform President Tinubu of the status of the census preparation.

When asked if the census preparations were still going on, Yahaya responded, “We are still continuing with our operations, such as sensitization and online training, among other activities.
