The planning for the 2023 Population and Housing Census cost the National Population Commission (NPC) over N200 billion.

According to Newsmen, Nasir Kwarra, the Executive Chairman of the Commission, stated as much during a speech at a breakfast meeting on Thursday.

Kwarra said that the sum spent was a portion of the N800 billion in total funding for the population census that was anticipated from the federal government.

He added that around one million people had been hired to carry out a legitimate and acceptable digital census, adding that the money includes the expense of more than five years of preparation for the operation.

The head of the NPC claimed that conducting a digital census would be expensive since it would need the commission to buy the necessary tools and information.

But Kwarra reassured Nigerians that the panel would work hard to produce a reliable census.

Recall that in April, President Muhammadu Buhari gave his approval to postpone the census. The nationwide exercise was scheduled to occur from May 3 through May 5.
