Bola Tinubu suspends CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele

The governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, has been immediately removed from his position by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Willie Bassey, Director, Information Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, said in a succinct statement on Friday night that it is in response to the ongoing investigation of his office and the anticipated banking sector reforms.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, Emefiele has been instructed to immediately transfer control of his office’s business to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who would serve as the Central Bank Governor until the investigation and reforms are complete.
