Lagos Police Nabbed Welder For Helping Fleeing Suspect Remove Handcuffs

The Lagos State Police Command announced that it had detained welder Aliu Tijani after he allegedly assisted a suspected cultist in removing his shackles in order to flee from police custody.

Wasiu Opeyemi, a suspected cultist, was previously apprehended in 2021, but he managed to escape from police custody, according to Benjamin Hundeyin, the state police’s public relations officer, on Sunday.

He claimed that last week, soldiers from the command re-arrested the suspect.

The PPRO, in a tweet via @BenHundeyin, stated, “Suspected cultist, Wasiu Opeyemi, escaped from police custody in August 2021 in handcuffs.
“Last week, he was re-arrested alongside Aliu Tijani, the welder who cut off the handcuffs when he escaped the first time.”
