President Bola Tinubu fired all present service chiefs on Monday night in a sweeping action.

This surprising shift is part of his larger efforts to restructure national security leadership.

Among the new appointments is Nuhu Ribadu, who was promoted from Special Adviser on Security Matters to National Security Adviser (NSA).

With this appointment, he will be at the helm of the country’s security strategy and policies.

President Tinubu also replaced the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, with Deputy Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun.

Egbetokun, on the other hand, will serve in an acting role for the time being.

According to media reports, Tinubu appointed Maj-Gen CG Musa as Chief of Defence Staff on Monday night.

Here are five facts about Maj.-Gen. CG Musa, the new Chief of Defence Staff.

1. Maj-Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa was born on December 25, 1967, in Sokoto State, Northwest Nigeria.

2. Musa had his primary and secondary education in the caliphate state despite his origins in Kaduna State’s Zangon Kataf Local Government Area.

3. In 1986, he was enrolled to the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna State, where he underwent intensive and grueling military training for five years during a period when the Nigerian military held political authority in the country.

4. In September 1991, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Infantry Corps, one of the army’s most challenging branches.

5. He was reassigned in 2021 as the Commander of Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai.

6. In January 2023, Maj.-Gen. Christopher Musa took command of the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps in Kaduna state at the Infantry Corps Centre Jaji Military Cantonment.
