According to the Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, from June 2022 to June 2023, 1,064 arrests were made.
This is stated in a statement by Sadik Maigatari, the command’s assistant public relations officer, a copy of which was provided to journalists on Saturday.
He said that there were 63 women and 1,001 men among the suspects detained.
He said that the command recovered a total of 7530.813 kg during the review period, including 5228.673 kg of cannabis, 2096.837 kg of psychoactive substances, 47.013 kg of cocaine, and 65.24 kg of heroin.
Mr. Maigatari said that 96 customers in all had been admitted to the command’s Drug Demand Reduction program, 92 of them were men and four of whom were women.
He further stated that from the number, 68 were discharged, while 28 were still under rehabilitation.

“We also conducted brief intervention on 1081 people, mostly males (701) and females (380).
“In our prosecution unit, we charged to court a total number of 93 cases from June 26th, 2022, to June 26th, 2023, and secured 111 convictions.”
The Ag. PRO added that the command currently has 126 pending cases.
He stressed that the command adoption of the War Against Drug Abuse campaign program, as a prevention approach, proved to be highly effective.
“This year, we achieved remarkable success in dislodging notorious drug joints and arresting dealers and users.
“Some of the joints we raided and dislodged include Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium, Bubbles Club, Kofar Na’isa, and many more.
“The creation of two additional area commands in Rano and Tudun Wada which has also enhanced our capability to crack down on drug abuse and trafficking in the state,” he said.
