Senator Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna Central lawmaker, has stated that the people in the southeast cannot be blamed for strongly supporting the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Sani, who made the proposal in a post on Saturday, highlighted that other parts of the country had historically backed various candidates from their region.
The former congressman stressed the southwest’s support for the late Chief MKO Abiola, as well as northerners’ support for former President Muhammadu Buhari.

As a result, he concluded that anyone accusing the southeast of totally backing Obi has either forgotten or chosen to disregard history.
He wrote on Twitter: “If history matters;any South Westerner who opposed Abiola was considered a Traitor. Any Northerner who opposed Buhari was condemned as an unbeliever. With Peter, the South East are simply toeing that line of history we have either forgotten or ignored. Have a blessed Weekend.”
