On Thursday, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, of Ebonyi State accused the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, of beginning an attack on its members who testified as witnesses against the APC before the Election Petitions Tribunal in Abuja.

Augustine Nwazunku, the State Caretaker Committee Chairman of the PDP, claimed that PDP witnesses who testified before the Election Tribunal in Abuja were attacked by suspected APC hitmen on their way home.

Nwazunku made this known in a statement signed and delivered to newsmen on Thursday in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State.

The statement alleged, “Some were brutally attacked by APC hired thugs, with their families, essentially chased out of their homes while business interests of our members’ farm were poisoned with yet to be verified chemical. Over twenty thousand fish fingerlings were physically damaged in some of the episodes of attacks,” the PDP alleged.

The Party said that APC chieftains and leaders had gone around communities and local governments threatening PDP supporters who were preparing to testify as witnesses before the Tribunal.

“The APC government has threatened to deal with any Ebonyi citizen seen to be hob-nobbing with the members of PDP in Ebonyi State,” the statement added.

In response, the APC’s State Chairman, Stanley Okoro-Emegha, called the claims “unfounded” and challenged the PDP to produce evidence of the claimed attacks on its members in front of the public.

Okoro-Emegha stated that the APC-led government of Ebonyi State is too preoccupied with governance to be distracted by any individual or organization, and he encouraged the PDP to clean house and stop making broad accusations.
