On Monday, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his Deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, opened and closed their defense in an electoral petition filed by the Labour Party, LP, and its Governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.
The LP and Rhodes-Vivour are contesting Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat’s victory in the March 18 governorship election.
They are also questioning Hamzat’s eligibility to run in the election.

They claimed he gave up his Nigerian citizenship and vowed loyalty to the United States.
The All Progressives Congress, APC, has signed on as a respondent to the petition.
Fuad Ade-Oki, the APC Chairman for Lagos State, testified before the tribunal as a defense witness.
He presented various documents to the tribunal, including an INEC Form EC9 holding Hamzat’s complete personal information and the oath he swore on his nomination form.
“Summary of Results from Registration Areas,” “Summary of Results from Local Government Areas,” and “Declaration of Result” are among the forms available.
Ade-Oki said before the tribunal, led in evidence by the APC’s lead counsel, Mr Abiodun Owonikoko (SAN), that he witnessed Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat filling out the INEC Form EC9, which contained their personal information as well as the oaths they swore on their nomination forms.

The oaths, he added, were administered at the Ikeja High Court Registry.
He also testified that Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat paid the prescribed fee for the nomination forms and signed their oaths.
“The two documents with no 003960120 and 00408841 contained the same facts and reflected the same receipt number,” he said.
The witness then produced in evidence the oath declaration page of Form EC9 and the receipts through APC’s lawyer.
However, Mr Idowu Benson, counsel for the LP, opposed to their inclusion.
Benson stated that he would reserve his arguments until his final presentation to the tribunal.

The tribunal, presided over by Justice Arum Ashom, allowed the documents provisionally pending the hearing of objections.
The tribunal released Ade-Oki following his testimony.
Banire then announced that Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat’s case will be closed.
