APP Warns Labour Party From Stirring Up Nigerians Against INEC Boss

by Victor Ndubuisi

The Action Peoples Party (APP) has declared that the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council’s (LPPCC) request to fire the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmoud Yakubu, is unnecessary.

Remember that the Director General of the LP Presidential Campaign, Akin Osuntokun, called for the INEC chairman’s immediate dismissal and prosecution.

Osuntokun also urged the international community to take “punitive action” against Yakubu and other key electoral officials over the conduct of the 2023 elections.

LP Demands Immediate Sack Of INEC Chairman, Prof Yakubu, Festus Okoye

The APP, in a statement issued by its acting National Chairman, Uche Nnadi, requested the LP to wait for the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal verdict on the 2023 election before demanding for Professor Yakubu’s dismissal.

Nnadi stated that it is regrettable that INEC has become a convenient punching bag for the political class to use in order to rig the system in their favor.

As a result, he advised the LP to refrain from unnecessarily inciting Nigerians against Yakubu, an exceptional public servant, as a result of their electoral defeat.

He said, “It is on record that the political class stood by while INEC facilities were targeted and attacked in the build-up to the elections. For instance, INEC facilities in the South East were constantly attacked & equipment destroyed with little or no comments from people such as Mr Osuntokun.
