If Tinubu Didn’t Remove Fuel Subsidy, This Is What Would Have Happened – Akpabio

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has told President Bola Tinubu that the elimination of fuel subsidies is in the best interests of Nigerians.

According to Akpabio, the President Tinubu-led administration removed fuel subsidies to combat corruption in the petroleum sector. He went on to say that the elimination of fuel subsidies was the first step in combating corruption in the system.

He claimed that if the subsidy was not abolished, Nigeria might not have survived the next five years.

The Senate President also stated that the federal government is prepared to reassess employee wages in order to mitigate the impact of the loss of the fuel subsidy.

According to news sources, Akpabio revealed this when receiving the Governor of Ekiti State, Abiodun Oyebanji, and members of the state’s National Assembly on a courtesy visit.

According to a statement from the media team of the Senate President, Akapabio said; “Nigeria as a country would not have survived the next few years if the fuel subsidy had not been removed, adding, salaries and wages of workers would be reviewed in order to ensure that Nigerians have a living wage.”

Speaking further, Akpabio told the governor that “the Senate is very proud of your representatives in the 10th National Assembly.”

He lauded Ekiti parliamentarians’ dedication to the legislative branch of government.

Earlier, Ekiti State Governor Abiodun Oyebanji praised the President of the Senate for his accomplishments in office in the last month.

He reaffirmed the people’s and government’s complete commitment to the success of his time as President of the Tenth Senate, as well as their willingness to work with the legislature to take the country forward.
