The fire that engulfed a gantry crane at ship side at the Port and Cargo Terminal on Thursday, according to the Tin-Can Island Port of the Nigerian Port Authority, NPA, did not result in any fatalities.
Speaking to Vanguard about the situation, the Port’s public relations officer, Mr. Shola Adesanwo, explained that the fire originated from the gantry crane’s tire and that firefighters were able to put it out before it spread to the crane.
Before making a statement, Adesanwo added that he was still in contact with the agency’s fire service department to learn more about the fire’s origins.

Recall that the terminal ‘C’ operated by Port and Cargo in the early evening of Thursday went up in flames as fighters battled for more than five hours to put off the fire.
Efforts to management of Port and Cargo were futile as calls and messages made to their phones were neither answered nor returned.
