Details about how the immediate past Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, was persuaded to become leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have emerged.

According to media sources, Ganduje, who was previously considered for the position of Minister, was unexpectedly appointed by President Bola Tinubu to the APC Chairmanship.

The President’s choice of Ganduje, on the other hand, was reportedly supported by the Progressives Governors’ Forum, the party’s governors’ umbrella organization, which met in Abuja.

While some members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) have spoken out against Ganduje, a close associate of the former Kano State governor has revealed that he was persuaded to accept the call.

Ganduje’s supporter told The Punch that the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), Hope Uzodinma, and the governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, persuaded him to accept the invitation.

According to the source, the President’s abrupt selection of Ganduje indicates that he believes he is a party loyalist with the ability to reconcile fractures inside the party.

“Nobody predicted the choice of Ganduje. In fact, he wasn’t among the top four ex-governors to replace Adamu in the first place.

“We believe President Tinubu must have considered him as a loyal and trusted ally who can turn things around at the party secretariat. It, however, took the intervention of the Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, and his Kwara State counterpart to persuade Ganduje to accept the assignment,” the source said.

An aide of Ganduje also disclosed that the former Kano governor had been requested to propose another committed member of his group to fill the position of minister.

Recall that Ganduje, along with three other APC governors, reportedly paid a visit to President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday.
