APC Crisis: Tinubu To Confirm NEC Date To Ratify Ganduje, Basiru Appointments

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is likely to confirm the date of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at the request of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

At its next meeting, the NEC is expected to confirm Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje as national chairman and Senator Ajibola Basiru as national secretary.

According to The Nation, the NWC, NEC, and governors agreed on a smooth transfer and continuation of the pre-existing zoning structure for party leadership makeup.

According to a source, the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) convened in the Imo State Lodge in Abuja and approved Ganduje and Basiru to succeed Abdullahi Adamu and Iyiola Omisore, who resigned last week.

Ganduje and Basiru also met with other party leaders, including National Caucus members.

According to the source, the National Caucus is anticipated to inform the NEC of the APC governors’ and other party blocs’ decisions before the new chairman and secretary take office following NEC ratification.

According to reports, the National Caucus has transmitted its decision to the state chapters and the legislative caucuses.

According to the APC’s constitution, one of the national convention’s primary functions is to elect new national officers.

However, the NEC has the authority to carry out the functions of the national convention between conventions.

According to Article 13(ii) of the APC constitution, the national convention is the party’s final authority.

It has the authority to ratify the party’s policies and programs, as well as to elect or remove national officers.

Article 13.3 A (ii) gives the NEC, the party’s main executive body, the authority to summon or assemble the national convention and plan its program.

In between national conventions, the constitution allows the NEC to perform the powers of the national convention.
