Former AGF Malami Under Investigation Over Five Suspicious Mega Deals

The administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu plans to investigate former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami (SAN).

According to TheCable, Malami will be interrogated about at least five dubious transactions during his tenure as president.

According to sources, his interrogation will be handled by a security agency.

The following are five of the transactions being investigated:

1. The inexplicable payment of $496 million to Global Steel Holdings Ltd (GSHL) as compensation for the termination of the Ajaokuta Steel concession nine years after the Indian business waived all compensation claims.

Malami allegedly agreed to pay Global Steel $496 million in compensation for the Ajaokuta steel facility, despite the business withdrawing its claims in 2013.

2. His handling of the sale of billions of naira in assets forfeited to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) by politically exposed individuals.

3. His role in a $419 million judgment against consultants who claimed to have facilitated Paris Club returns to states.

4. The unusual agreement to pay $200 million in compensation to Sunrise Power in its fight with the federal government over the Mambilla power project.

5. Duplicate legal expenses in the $321 million Abacha wealth transfer from Switzerland to Nigeria.

According to reports, Abubakar Malami’s name appeared in a number of problematic agreements during the previous administration.
