Niger Coup: West African Military Chiefs Meet In Abuja

Military leaders from West African nations have come in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, for an urgent conference about the recent military coups in the Republic of Niger.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the meeting is now taking place in the Abuja Defense Headquarters.

Journalists have noted that while several military leaders have seated themselves for the meeting, the seats designated for Mali, Guinea Bissau, Niger, and Burkina Faso are now empty.

According to the Daily Trust, military leaders from Togo, Sierra Leone, Senegal, Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Guinea, Gambia, Cote’Divoire, Cape Verde, and the Republic of Benin are currently on the ground.

Gen. Christopher Musa, the head of the ECOWAS military, is presiding over the meeting.

Recall that on Sunday, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) gave the coup leaders in Niger a week to restore democracy or face military intervention.
