Alleged contempt: FG Mauls Moves To Jail Labour Leaders

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) are the targets of a new lawsuit brought by the federal government for allegedly disobeying a court order prohibiting them from going on strike.

Known as “Form 48,” the “notice of consequences of disobedience to order of court” was submitted to the National Industrial Court in Abuja on Wednesday.

The Federal Government and the Attorney General of the Federation are identified as the applicants, and the various organized labor leaders are designated as the respondents.

“TAKE NOTICE that unless you obey the Direction contained in the Order of the National Industrial Court, Abuja, delivered by Honourable Justice Y. Anuwe on June 5th 2023, as per the attached Enrolled Order, you will be guilty of Contempt of Court and will be liable to be sentenced to prison.”

According to news sources, Organized Labour organized a nationwide protest against the Federal Government’s “anti-people” policies early on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, they later had a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.
