The All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu have been charged with hatching schemes to subvert the judicial system in order to sway the members of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal’s decision in the ongoing lawsuit brought by the opposition candidates.
According to Anaedoonline.ng, this accusation was made by Nigerian investigative journalist David Hundeyin during a 90 Minutes Africa interview with Rudolf Okonkwo.
According to Hundeyin, the APC made no attempt to mount a convincing defense against the petition filed by Peter Obi, the candidate for the Labour Party, contesting Tinubu’s ability to run in the 2023 election.
Tribunal Promises Atiku, Obi, Others Of Passionate, Objective Process
He added that the objective of the ruling party is to either directly threaten judges or bribe them with money.
“They made very little attempt to present a case because their entire strategy seems to be built on compromising the judiciary,” Hundeyin alleged.
In his opinion, even if Obi is on track with his legal effort to reclaim his allegedly stolen mandate, the judiciary tends to exploit trivial technicalities as an excuse, making results impossible to predict.
“But Nigeria being as it is, it means anything can happen. The judges may agree with the submissions of Peter Obi and the Labour Party but still give judgment against them based on technicalities. We have seen all sought happen in Nigeria,” he added.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the ruling party as the victor of the February 25 presidential election. Recall contenders for the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, and the Labour Party are contesting this decision.
