France has rejected the Niger junta’s recent efforts to void bilateral military accords, asserting that only the nation’s “legitimate” leadership has the authority to take such moves.

The French foreign ministry reacted to the junta’s declaration that it was terminating military cooperation arrangements with Paris by claiming that the accords had been established with the acknowledged Nigerien authorities.

According to the foreign ministry, the agreements that were signed with the legitimate Nigerien authorities serve as the legal foundation for France’s defence pact with Niger.

The delegation’s goal was to reinstate Niger’s constitutional order.

The revocation of five military agreements with France that date from 1977 to 2020 was announced on national television by junta representative Amadou Abdramane.

Additionally, the French foreign ministry expressed disapproval at the suspension of France 24 and RFI’s broadcasts, which were supported by the French government.

Amadou Abdramane, a junta representative, read out a decision about the cancellation of five military agreements with France that date from 1977 to 2020 late on Thursday on national television.
