Maryam ‘Shetty’ Shettima’s nomination as a ministerial nominee from Kano State has been withdrawn by President Bola Tinubu.

Recall that the National Assembly received 48 other names in addition to the nominee’s name from the President for review and confirmation.

The President substituted Dr. Mairiga Mahmud for Shettima in a letter to the Senate on Friday without giving a justification for the change.

This was made known at Friday’s plenary session of the Senate when Senate President Godswill Akpabio read a letter from the President.

Maryam Shettima, better known by her stage as Maryam Shetty, served as the national leader of the APC advocacy group #WeBelieve.

She holds a degree in physiotherapy and is a social activist. Ms. Shettima, who was raised in Kano and is a member of the Kano royal family, attended the Federal School of Physiotherapy at Bayero University, where she earned a BSc with honours.

Prior to moving to London to pursue her study, she did a brief internship with the Malam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital and Dala Orthopaedic in Kano.

She majored in sports physiotherapy while earning her master’s degree at the University of East London, Stratford.

She worked with prominent athletes, including as Jamaica’s Usain Bolt, who holds the world record for the fastest time, while serving on the medical staff of the London Olympics.
