The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), an organisation that promotes Muslim human rights, has issued a warning on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s intended military action in Niger.

This was announced in a statement on Saturday by Hassan Indabawa, the chairman of MURIC’s Kano State branch.

The response from MURIC follows Tinubu’s request to the Senate to put an ECOWAS resolution into effect in Niger.

War, according to the group, is not a solution to the Niger situation.

The military would signal death for both Niger and Northern Nigeria, according to MURIC, because both nations suffer from uncurable cultural illnesses.

“Military action should never be an option in solving the problem of change of government in the Niger Republic due to the current and historical relationship between Niger and Nigeria, two brotherly neighbours in West Africa. Relations between the two countries are based on a long shared border and common cultural and historical interactions.”

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the Niger junta severed ties with Nigeria after a diplomatic effort by ECOWAS ended in failure.

Last Friday, Tinubu’s proposal for a military intervention in Niger was read aloud in the Senate’s plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

However, Nigerians’ responses to the request were conflicted.

President Mohamed Bazoum’s democratically elected government in Niger was overthrown on July 26 by a military coup.

As a result, the US, France, and ECOWAS demanded that democracy return to the area.
