Chicago Court Dismiss Atiku’s Suit Filed Against Tinubu

A lawsuit requesting information about President Bola Tinubu’s academic record at Chicago State University has been dropped.

Tinubu stated during the 2022 elections that he received a Bachelor of Business Administration with honours from Chicago State University (CSU).

Tinubu’s degree was confirmed by Beverly Poindexter from the CSU Office of the Registrar, but there were still some questions. Atiku, a candidate for president, then started a court action to get these records.

Punch reports that Atiku withdrew the action prior to the hearing, which led Judge Patrick J. Heneghan to dismiss the matter.

He stated, “Petitioner’s subpoena in this case is withdrawn,” thus ending CSU’s involvement.

Tinubu was recognised as a prestigious CSU alumnus and an important player in the US by Victor Henderson, a renowned commercial litigation attorney in Chicago.

In a press statement dated August 2, 2023, Henderson said, “Despite Tinubu’s prominence, Atiku Abubakar and a few of his followers have attempted to illegally access the President’s confidential educational records by filing an improper lawsuit without basic due process or even the simple decency of asking the President himself to release his records.

“The goal of Abubakar and others, of course, is to stain the President’s character and reputation and to try to steal an election that they lost.

“The good news for the President and his supporters is that the court dismissed the lawsuit that Abubakar improperly filed to get access to the President’s records.

“In addition, a leading Chicago State official recently confirmed, again, that the President is a long-time and distinguished alumnus of the university.”
