Professor Pat Utomi, a past candidate for president, has openly discussed his ongoing battle with illness.

In a series of tweets posted on Friday, he announced his diagnosis and stated that a biopsy in 2022 had found the disease.

Utomi talked about his approach to treating his cancer, but he did not clarify what kind it was.

Utomi described how he will balance his campaign obligations with trips to a cancer centre in Ikeja during the run-up to the 2023 elections.

He said that the more he talks about the illness, the more he understands other people in his age range are dealing with it.

Utomi in a post on Twitter wrote, “Did not see why it was taboo to say you were in a battle with Cancer. The more I talked about it the more I found many of my age in similar circumstances.

“It almost seems like an epidemic for Nigerian men over 60. Not talking makes them lose the benefit of early detection.

“Once elections were over, my young nephews and cousins, Doctors in Europe and the US joined forces with the Lakeshore people and decided they wanted me in their direct care.

“That’s how it seemed. I went quiet cause they controlled my phones to reduce stress.”
