Gov Obaseki Reveals How Shaibu Manipulated Edo Youth Council Election For Selfish Ambition

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has charged his deputy Philip Shaibu with rigging the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Edo State Chapter election in order to appoint an Executive Council (EXCO) and further his own avaricious desire to become governor of the state.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, Obaseki revealed the information over the weekend while celebrating International Youths Day with young people from the state at the Youth House in Benin City.

Remember how the election of the last EXCO of the NYCN, Edo State chapter, caused friction among the state’s youth organisations because a number of interest groups objected to the imposition of individuals on the organisation and its organs. The governor had to step in, and he took quick action to dissolve the EXCO and call for fresh elections, to restore order and sanity to the council.

Shaibu Not Planning To Dump PDP And Join APC – Party Chieftain

Obaseki mentioned Shaibu’s efforts to stoke his ambition through the youth council while discussing the crises that rocked the organisation.

According to the governor, “I want to apologise over the unfortunate incident that happened with the youth council election. It was done without my authorization and knowledge.

“As you can see now, the reason why my deputy governor manipulated your election is because he has political ambition and thought he could control and use the council to achieve his political goals. Please, I apologise. Going forward you will have an independent, well organised and well covered transparent election.”

Commending the youths, Edo First Lady, Betsy Obaseki, said, “You are the ones we are looking up to. That is the reason why we are getting involved in your affairs and life and are here to support you. We are expecting great things from you and are confident that you will not disappoint us.”
