The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has warned to call a national strike if the current N617 per litre pump price of fuel is increased further.
Recall that oil marketers had warned that if the dollar continued to trade between N910 and N950 on the black market, the price of Premium Motor Spirit, more commonly known as petrol, would jump to between N680 and N720 per litre in the upcoming weeks.
The marketers further stated that the official foreign exchange window operated by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Importers and Exporters had continued to be unreliable and unable to supply the $25 million to $30 million needed for dealers to import PMS.

Additionally, they suggested that its members who wanted to import petrol were being pushed to disclose their plans on hold due to the scarcity of foreign exchange to import the commodity.
The NLC President, Joe Ajaero, said the union will move forward with a complete, all-encompassing, and indefinite nationwide closure of the country on Monday during the African Trade Union Alliance meeting in Abuja.
Ajaero also cautioned the federal government against undermining the union’s demands and the scheme to give employees and Nigerians palliatives.
