Emmanuel Adebayor, a former forward for Arsenal, has claimed he is Nigerian despite having played for Togo on the international stage while he was a professional.

He claims to be a Yoruba from Nigeria, despite having been born and raised in Togo.

This was revealed by the experienced striker, who is 39, in a recent TVC interview.

He said: “My father’s name is Adeyi Adebayor, and my mother’s name is Alice Eniola Adekanye. So, I am a pure Yoruba man. I was just born and raised in Togo, but I am fully from Nigeria.”

The former African Player of the Year travelled to Nigeria to take part in the novelty event put on by African football icons in memory of Austin Jay Jay Okocha, a former Super Eagles captain who just celebrated his 50th birthday.
