COUP: Tinubu Approves Return Of Islamic Leaders To Niger Republic

The return of an Islamic mission led by the Council of Ulamas to the Niger Republic for additional diplomatic discussions with the military junta has been authorised by President Bola Tinubu.

The Nigerian president met with Islamic leaders on Thursday at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, according to an earlier report by Anaedoonline.ng.

President Tinubu had given the go-ahead for the Islamic leaders, led by Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, to speak with the coup organisers in the Niger Republic on behalf of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The Ulamas were at the White House to inform the President of their conversation with General Abdourahamane Tchiani, head of the junta.

Following the meeting, the presidency issued a statement in which it stated that President Tinubu had given his approval for the return of the Islamic leaders to the Niger Republic for another round of talks with the military junta.
