Presidential Tribunal Breaks Silence On ‘Date’ For Judgement On Obi, Atiku’s Petition Against Tinubu Victory

The Presidential Election Petitions Court in Abuja has rejected a supposed date that was circulated on social media as the set date for ruling on the corresponding petitions contesting President Bola Tinubu’s election.

This follows the announcement on Monday by Serah Ibrahim, a verified Twitter account, that the PEPC “has set September 16 2023 as the judgement date for the Peter Obi and Labour party’s case against Bole Tinubu, INEC, Shettima, and APC.”

At the time of this article, the tweet has received over 2,083 retweets, indicating its popularity.

Barrister Josephine J. Ekperobe, the Secretary of the PEPC panel, responded to the development by dismissing the trending tweet.

In response to the Whistler’s query, the official stated, “No date yet.”

Recall that the five-member tribunal presided over by Justice Haruna Simon Tsamani reserved judgement after adopting the final written addresses of the parties involved in the lawsuit and stated that the parties involved and their solicitors will be informed of the verdict’s delivery date.

On Monday, a number of sources asserted that the panel has chosen September 16 as the judgement date.

The reported date is the tribunal’s last opportunity to render a decision on the three petitions filed by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), the Labour Party (LP), and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), along with their respective presidential candidates, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Mr. Peter Obi, and Princess Chichi Ojei respectively.
